Poopy time conversation with Arya

12/04/2011
Arya has not been pooping well for the past 2 days. We were worried that she would get constipated. Last night, she said that she needed to go poopy and then kept saying it hurt and wouldnt poop (I know - what a topic.. but parents' lives revolve a lot around poopy... :))

So today when she wouldnt go poopy again I kept trying to motivate her one way or another. She wanted Daddy after crying that she was done or about 15 mins..

When daddy comes and says "Arya you need to go poopy" The conversation goes as follows"
Arya: I am all done, poopy all gone.
Daddy: Where did the poopy go?
Arya: Zoey ate it all. It is in Zoey's tummy...

Arya is already trying to blame the dogs for everything that she can get in trouble for.

Earlier on in the day she lost a twist tie that I had asked her to hold for me. When I asked her where it is, she replies " Socrates took it mommy and ate it..."

First ER Trip

08/30/2011

Time to get ready for bed and Arya starts saying "Mommy it hurts when I pee" My first thought ofcourse is "please not a UTI". 2nd thought - hmm is this one of her ploys to not go to bed? because she finds reasons to not go into bed - one of them being "I want to go to timeout" Yes, my daughter wants to go to time out if she does not want to sleep.. things kids think of..

Well, we get teeth brushed, night time diaper on and head to bed. She lays down and then gets up and says "it hurts mommy". Now she is also pointing to her lower back too. Deepoo and I talk about it and decide to call her pediatrician. The Ped. says to take her to the Urgent care and ofcourse with our luck, the urgent cares here close at 9:00 pm. So we head to the Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite ER. Arya in the mean time keeps complaining a little that it still hurts.

By the time we get to the ER and they take a Urine sample she was in a lot of pain. There have been very very few times in my life where I have felt utterly helpless - this was the worst of those. She was cringing in pain and there was nothing I could do to make her feel better. I have had UTIs and wouldnt wish the pain on my enemy even.. uummm maybe I would..

But finally the urinalysis comes back and confirms that Arya has a UTI. They give her some motrin and we head out with a prescription for the antibiotic. The ER PA gave us a list of 24hour pharmacies in that area, but we thought that we can pick something up from the Walgreens or CVS near home. Oh well, once we got close to home we found out that no all Walgreens and CVS are 24 hours. After 1 some searching we found a CVS not too far away from home that is open. So back home at 3:00 am Arya got her first dose of anitbiotic and the whole time she would wake up and scream in pain every time she peed in her diaper. This really sucked.

We didnt sleep much for the rest of the night because Arya kept waking up in pain. All this happened in the week when we are all sick - down with a cold. She was up at 6am and didnt want to go back to sleep. So I woke up with her and got some things done and Deepoo slept for a few hours and then he woke up and took care of things while I took a couple of hours nap.

I took the day off and slept with Arya and we watch Tom and Jerry together ...

Seeing her in the pain that even adults find it hard to endure and not being able to do anything was one of the worst experiences of my life.

Montessori - contd...

Day 2 and 3 went ok - not bad. Yesterday she cried when Daddy dropped her off at school and she just started to cry when I went to pick her up, but stopped as soon as she was in my arms. Not bad - she did keep saying "go home soon - school bye bye" But she did not fuss over it - just tried to convince us that we shouldnt send her to school :)
This morning, as soon as I got her shoes out and told her that it was time to get ready for school, she took her shoes and put them away and curled up in my arms. She was kind of complaining, but not really crying. We sang together, I explained to her that should would go to school and have fun - meet with her teach Ms. Martha and the other kids - that she will get to go and play outside on the slide. After a while she seemed to calm down. When it was time to go she was actually excited about being in her car seat - I know YEAH....
When Daddy got to school though Arya was in tears from the moment they got out of the car, but she did not fight it. I guess she doesnt hate it, but just doesnt want to be away from home.
Today, when I went to pick her up, she came hopping - jumping - skipping with a smile on her face. Although as soon as she saw me - she ran saying "all done bye bye - go home now" But she did not cry at all. I love this place - Children Today Montessori - they have been so nice and Arya is doing so much better here than she did at the other place....

Tomorrow she gets to stay 9 am to 11 am. I am thinking that 1st of July I will let her stay until 1230 like she is supposed to from next week. Three day weekend after that for her to recover if she needs to.....

I am so glad that we found a place that we feel comfortable leaving Arya at. The staff and teachers are very nice.

Day 1 Montessori

Take 2... 06/27/2011

We removed Arya from the Daycare and enrolled her into Montessori. Today was her first day - she did pretty well. She wasnt happy to be left alone without mommy and daddy, but she didnt seem to be miserable either. We peeked on her every now and then for the 1 hour she was there. She stayed close to one of the teachers and did the activities she was asked to do. But after 1 hours when they got her back to us, she did cry for less than a minute. It was mostly " Daddy, Mommy... "with a few seconds of crying and then "Go home. All done... Bye" But when we told her that she would becoming back tomorrow, she didnt get upset. That is a big thing. In the other daycare, she absolutely did not want to come back and when I had asked her if she had fun, she clearly had said "NO". Today when we asked her if she had fun, she said "had fun, go home now"

Tomorrow she goes back for 1 hour 15 mins... This is the transition week. From next week she will be going until 12:30 pm. My little girl is going to school..

She seems to be doing much better this time around - the teachers were very good and the transition week makes so much sense...

Tomorrow is another day.....

Day care sucked!!

So the daycare sucked. 2 days and Arya was not only sick but very upset. She was not happy and became very clingy after the first 2 days in daycare. So we pulled her out - she seemed to shut down in daycare and didnt really cry much but when she came home, she did not want to leave the house. I know that she needs to go to daycare so that she can socialize with kids her but not sure if I am ok with the price she is having to pay.... Maybe I am overreacting, but I did not give up my career of choice so she can be sad...

Well, so we have been looking at a few Montessori schools. Their philosophy seems to be more in line with our thoughts. Once we finalize on a Montessori school, she will start off with a transition week where she will go for 1 hour the first day and slowly increase through the week. After that she will only stay until noon and then we will move her to full day.

I hope that this will work better with her... Her interaction right now is mostly adults except the few kids at Gymboree....

I will post more once we pick the school for her...

Day 1 of Daycare

05/31/2011

Today is Arya's first day in daycare. She was doing fine the last time I called. She had a moment (as they said) when she realized that I wasn't there and she started crying but then was easily redirected to their Circle Time (group activities).

I guess that would make one of us - I have spent a good part of the morning crying. I feel like I abandoned my little girl. Everyone I know has told me that she will be just fine and I hope that she is having a great day filled with fun and learning. But still cant help feeling like a big piece of my heart is missing :(

This week I will be picking her up a little bit early - I think more for my sanity. After their nap in the afternoon they usually have a snack and then go outside and play. I doubt she will want to leave the playground and come home with me. But I will give it a try just in case she is ready to come home....

Will post more once I have more details of her first day!!

Another bump on the head!!

Lots of posts today.. catching up on the past few days and today..

Arya was running around playing with Jessica and in the moment of excitement, Arya bounced off the chair and went flying back - fell on the floor and hit the back of her head. I had her in my arms in a second and we put her boo boo bunny on her head and she calmed down and let the ice make the pain better. After about 5 mins, Olga (our cleaning lady) came to ask her what happened and Arya had a full story for her how it was Jecca's (Jessica) fault that Arya fell down. She kept giving Olga the detailed descriptions of how she got her booboo - "Jecca fault I fall.." It was absolutely hilarious how she followed Olga around the house while she cleaned and kept telling the story in different ways.

My poor baby fall so much around other people and then I am told that I am being overprotective and paranoid... :( She seems to be fine, a very tiny bump if even one .... She is definitely fascinated with the idea of sharing that it was Jecca fault I fall... :)
Sorry Jessica but this laugh at your expense was great - just not the part of Arya falling and hitting her head.

My 2 year old has attitude

I am going to just list out a few things:

1. At one of the day care that we went to tour, Arya was trying to interact with the kids in the class. One of the girls looks at Arya and says " You are a princess" and in response Arya shrugged her shoulders at the girl.... Oh my...

2. Jessica (nanny) left the sprayer on our kitchen faucet on by mistake and got herself and the kitchen floor wet. Arya offered to help clean up the mess and wiped all the water off the floor. Not even a minute later, Jessica does it again. Arya looks up at Jessica and says "Great!!!" The expression on her face if it could have been translated to words would have been .. "I just cleaned this mess you made ... you did it again??? Great!!!"

It was absolutely hilarious.

Daycare next week!!

So, Arya is going to start daycare next week. We had been thinking about this for a while. It would be good for her to socialize with kids her age and also to be at a setting different than home so that she can get used to being comfortable at other places besides home.
My hopes of making friends with neighbors with kids same age fell through :( Oh well.. so we toured a few places and finally decided to get her enrolled into a place called Akers Academy. It is a local day care center with only 2 location in the Alpharetta and Cumming area. We liked the place - one of our friends has her son over there.

Her first day away from home is on 31st of May (next tuesday). I am not sure how she is going to do away from home, me, Socrates, Zoey, and Jessica. I am sure that I will be a basket case to not have her in front of me. But I guess we both need to grow a little. I will post another update next week after her first day.

I did a poopy!!!

So - Arya has been working on potty training for a few weeks. We are doing it gently, I am in no rush to push her into it. So far, she has been pooping in the toilet YEAH :) She is still working on figuring out when she needs to pee feeling...

Well her thing is that she thinks every time she goes to the potty she has to poop and then look at it and say "I did it I did it, I did a poopy..." It is hilarious when you hear it, but when you are in the bathroom with her cleaning her up and she is fussing because you wont let her see the poopy yet... well it may not be so funny then. Daddy definitely is not very amused by it. :)

Daddy is trying to explain to a 2 year old why she should wash her hands after using the toilet... Arya's response - "NO I dont need it.."

Every time Arya has to go potty she will look at us with her big eyes and say "I stinky, diaper change. Potty - toilet. Now..." And then she will sit her the toilet and close her eyes and focus on what she is doing. Hopefully she will pay as much attention to studies and listening to mommy and daddy...

More later..Need to catch my breath.

Catching up

So it has been a while since my last post. Lots have happened since then.

We had just come back from Costco and were getting stuff out of the car. Arya decided to get into the driver seat and close the door and turn the music on. We didnt realize it until later that she was dancing to the different channels she could find on the radio. We didnt know that the radio could be turned on without the keys in the car :)

Another day I had gone to Michaels with Jessica and Arya. After we were done at Michaels I was taking something out of the trunk that I need to return to Kohls. Well as I was pulling the box out, all the contents fell out. The first words that come out of my mouth " Damn it" Well guess what - 2 seconds later Arya is saying "Damn it". Of all the words she could have copied that is the one she pics for the day. A few days later while we were playing Wii - suddenly we stop and realize that Arya is saying "Damn it Damn it..."

She is definitley speaking a lot more. She is more expressive, imaginative .... just amazing how much she grows each day.

One day while playing on her rocking table - she counted from 1 thought 10 all on her own without being prompted :) I am so proud of her. She can count to 10 with a little bit of prompting now. She also can say A B C D.. and tried to sing the ABCD song..

She can sing the song " I love you, you love me, we are a happy family. With a great big hug and kiss from me to you, wont you say you love me too" She knows the beginning of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star..." "Mr Sun Mr Sun.."

Her vocabulary is increasing every day....

2 weeks without nanny!

So, our nanny went to Italy on vacation for about 10 days. Dipesh worked from home so that Ic an get some work done while taking care of Arya for those 2 weeks. I was worried how it would work with keeping Arya entertained and getting my work done.

I went to the library to arm myself with all the activities ideas I could find so that I can keep Arya occupied. Little did I realize that I will be doing all those activities with Arya...
1. We did finger painting
2. We created Alphabet poster board with colorful glittery stickers
3. We created Number, Color, and Shapes poster board - again with glittery stickers. Though the poster boards are still a work in progress it was fun doing it with her. Particularly trying to keep her from pulling the stickers off the poster board after I had pasted them there.
4. We baked cookies using our mini cookie cutter shapes.
5. We went to the library a few times
6. We went to Michaels to pick out craft materials.
7. We cried together when both mommy and baby were frustrated at each other for not giving what we wanted :)
8. We spent sleepless nights together when the storm hit

Overall it went much better than I expected - luckily I did not get slammed at work. But after 2 weeks of paying attention to Arya, work, cooking, cleaning, doggies - I need a vacation. Maybe we will make a trip to Disney World soon.

Holi 2011

03/20/2011

Arya's first Holi (festival of colors) - she had all these expressions when I would apply color to her face :) At first she was not happy with it and kept covering her face and saying "NO".. but once she saw me apply color to Daddy dear - she was all for it. Lucky for us she doesnt yet know that she is allowed to take a handful of color and put it on us. She kept dipping her finger in the dry color and applying it very neatly to our face.. Towards the end she was taking a little more color and painting our hands and legs. It was just so much fun. Hopefully next year the weather will be warm enough for us to play with water guns in the backyard.

She is growing up so fast.. it is absolutely amazing.

Finger painting

03/24/2011
So our first try at finger painting - it was a blast. Just a few days before we had played Holi (festival of colors) in our kitchen. So, when we lay down paper and paint for finger painting, Arya thought that we were just playing Holi again with wet colors this time :) So we have to stop her from trying to paint us and herself instead of the paper...

She had a lot of fun doing it and there are pictures to prove it.

Sleepless nights back on!

03/03/2011

After the excitement a few days ago regarding Arya making it through the night without a beep in her room, well we are back to sleepless nights. More like I am back to sleepless nights. She has been waking up every few hours unless one of us is with her. So we have stuck to our plan to not let her in our bed and continue to go to her room in the middle of the night and sleep in with her. Even though my dear husband said that I didnt have to wake up every night, he still asks me most nights to get up and take care of her... Oh well I dont really mind curling up next to my precious bundle of joy, but it sure would be nice if she would just sleep through the night on her own. I hope it will happen soon... I am going to go insane if I keep adding to my number of sleepless nights.

Arya slept through the night in her room!

02/28/2011

Last night Arya slept through the night without waking up even once in her bed in her room... I woke up at 3:30 because Socrates was whining to go out and I was a little worried that Arya hadnt woken up at all. I had read about it where the parents freak out a little when this happens, but I didnt think it would happen to us...Yeah... we are not entirely sure what we did right this time. But believe it we will be trying everything we did last night to have a repeat of this miracle. I think I will be feeding her the exact same food as well :)

We are thrilled that she slept through the night.

Looking forward to more nights like this one.

Mean Blade Grass

02/24/2011
We were playing in the backyard enjoying the wonderful weather when a mean strand of blade grass decided to drift Arya's way and tempt her to pick it up. Although I hastily told Arya not to pick up, her curiosity forced her to ignore my warning. Arya picked up the blade grass and and held it tight in her little hand. When I tried to get her to drop it, she just slid her fingers on it and ouch... she cut her finger :( A drop of blood pooled at her fingertip and she looked up at me and said "Mommy boo boo.." I ran into the house and cleaned up the cut and and put a band aid on it. Since then she has been saying "boo boo" and kissing her little finger multiple times through the day. It is so cute to watch her do that through the day....
Luckily it was a very light cut so no biggie...

Best Friends Forever

02/24/2011

It has been a while since my last post. Arya is growing up so fast. She picks more than 50% of the words we say to her, doesnt always remember them. But she definitely tries to repeat after us.

We went to Kiawah Island, SC this past weekend to spend some time with Kathy (one of my best friends) and her family. Kathy and Phil's daughter Lilian is just over 2 months older to Arya. They had such a blast playing with each other annoying each other - it was a lot of fun to watch. It was Arya's first time with spending so much time with another kid her own age. Needless to say she was so excited that the concept of eating escaped her thoughts completely.

This was also Arya's first time at the beach. She did not have much fun walking barefoot, but she did have a lot of fun walking around with her shoes on. She collected shells and looked at dead starfish.

Throughout the trip both Arya and Lilian would try to eat out of each other plate when they were snacking, or snatch the toy out of each other's hand, but they didnt fight. Lilian is at the stage where everything is "mine", so every time Arya would take one of Lilian's toys Lilian would come and take it back saying "mine". It was very cute....

Since Lilian had been to this place a few times before, she tried to show Arya the way by holding her hand and walking together. They also shared a few moments on a rocking chair..

I really hope that they will grow up to be best friends like Kathy and I and cherish these moments that they are spending together.

Playing the harmonica

01/8/2011
Arya has a small set of musical instruments that she loves to play with. One of the instruments is a harmonica that she would hand over to me to play so that she can hear. Today while I was playing Wii, Arya starts playing the harmonica. She played it very well in fact....

Will post a recording when I record it next time around.

I love you Daddy!!

01/04/2011
So... Dipesh was working late - pretty late infact. He didnt get home until after midnight. But during the evening Arya kept looking for Daddy to walk though the garage door. So finally we just called daddy to talk to him. I told Arya to tell daddy she loves him and guess what --- she does. "I love you"....
