I went potty all by myself!!!

We have been working on potty training for about a month now. She has been doing great. Today was the best though. I was out taking the doggies to the potty in the evening.. I popped in to check on Arya and she wasnt on the couch watching Diego - which is what she was doing when I stepped out to the backyard. I call out to her and she was in the bathroom going peepee all by herself. She even took a wet tissue and cleaned herself, washed her hand and dried them and went back to watching Diego.

She has also gone about 3 weeks without peeing in her pullup at night time. I am so proud of my little girl.

Week 3 of being sick

So this has been the worst beginning of a new year ever in my memory. Arya had high fever from 01/16 through 01/21. The week ended with fever gone and the onset of a nasty cold. She was feeling well enough to go back to school though. One of her teachers commented on how much weight she had lost. When you are only 34 pounds, losing 3-4 lbs is a lot of weight, her clothes and even her diapers were lose. But we thought that she will get past the cold and hopefully this is it for at least another month or so. But Sunday night 01/29 her fever was back.

So no school on Monday, but her fever did go down and kept lurking around 100 degrees for Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday - she still couldnt go to school because she has to be fever free for 24 hours before I can send her back. I was able to get Jessica to come baby sit for a few hours so that I could get some work done. Before Jessica put Arya down for her nap, Arya fever was up again to 101.6 and after that her fever stayed between 102 and 103.7 up until this morning.

Yesterday her it was about 11 hours before her fever came back, but it was back at 102.7 Now we wait and see how she does today. If her fever is not gone by tomorrow, we will be back in the Doctor's office on Monday - that would make it 5 trips to the doctor in less than 3 weeks.

I hope this fever ends soon and Arya bounces back to being healthy again and puts her weight back. I cannot imagine how painful this must be for her.

Really Bad week

01/16/2012 through 01/21/2012
One of the worst weeks ever. Arya started off monday night with a not too high fever and was sick the entire week with very high fever. Her temperature rose to 104.5, which had us rushing to the Urgent Care near home. Strep test came back negative and everything else looked ok. So we came back home with the possibility that she had a viral infection. That sucked because there is nothing you can do besides wait it out. Waiting it out with a 2 year old whose temp stayed above 102 for 4 days, was hard. My poor baby has lost so much weight and looks so exhausted.

One of the days, she did not eat or drink anything - next day back to her Ped.. Everything came back ok, except that she was very dehydrated. Doc said that she had to drink plenty of fluids or has to come back next day for IV fluids. I pretty much had to threaten Arya with a needle every few mins to get her to drink - it worked. I felt horrible for doing it, but that was much better than having to take her back to get IV fluids.

Her fever finally went away by Saturday morning after 4 days of haunting us. Her appetite is somewhat normal again. She will have to do some catching up on the weight now...

I hope this does not happen ever again....

Out Smarting a Two Year Old

Tonight Arya has woken up several times before I we were ready to go to bed.  On my last trip upstairs to get her to sleep again she says (as usual) "I don't want daddy, I want mommy!  Daddy is yucky!" To which I reply "Why is Daddy yucky?"  "Cause I don't like you!  Go Away!"  My response, "I will go away after you fall asleep."  She promptly laid down on her bed and fell asleep.

Who said you couldn't logic with a two year old?

Poopy time conversation with Arya

12/04/2011
Arya has not been pooping well for the past 2 days. We were worried that she would get constipated. Last night, she said that she needed to go poopy and then kept saying it hurt and wouldnt poop (I know - what a topic.. but parents' lives revolve a lot around poopy... :))

So today when she wouldnt go poopy again I kept trying to motivate her one way or another. She wanted Daddy after crying that she was done or about 15 mins..

When daddy comes and says "Arya you need to go poopy" The conversation goes as follows"
Arya: I am all done, poopy all gone.
Daddy: Where did the poopy go?
Arya: Zoey ate it all. It is in Zoey's tummy...

Arya is already trying to blame the dogs for everything that she can get in trouble for.

Earlier on in the day she lost a twist tie that I had asked her to hold for me. When I asked her where it is, she replies " Socrates took it mommy and ate it..."

First ER Trip

08/30/2011

Time to get ready for bed and Arya starts saying "Mommy it hurts when I pee" My first thought ofcourse is "please not a UTI". 2nd thought - hmm is this one of her ploys to not go to bed? because she finds reasons to not go into bed - one of them being "I want to go to timeout" Yes, my daughter wants to go to time out if she does not want to sleep.. things kids think of..

Well, we get teeth brushed, night time diaper on and head to bed. She lays down and then gets up and says "it hurts mommy". Now she is also pointing to her lower back too. Deepoo and I talk about it and decide to call her pediatrician. The Ped. says to take her to the Urgent care and ofcourse with our luck, the urgent cares here close at 9:00 pm. So we head to the Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite ER. Arya in the mean time keeps complaining a little that it still hurts.

By the time we get to the ER and they take a Urine sample she was in a lot of pain. There have been very very few times in my life where I have felt utterly helpless - this was the worst of those. She was cringing in pain and there was nothing I could do to make her feel better. I have had UTIs and wouldnt wish the pain on my enemy even.. uummm maybe I would..

But finally the urinalysis comes back and confirms that Arya has a UTI. They give her some motrin and we head out with a prescription for the antibiotic. The ER PA gave us a list of 24hour pharmacies in that area, but we thought that we can pick something up from the Walgreens or CVS near home. Oh well, once we got close to home we found out that no all Walgreens and CVS are 24 hours. After 1 some searching we found a CVS not too far away from home that is open. So back home at 3:00 am Arya got her first dose of anitbiotic and the whole time she would wake up and scream in pain every time she peed in her diaper. This really sucked.

We didnt sleep much for the rest of the night because Arya kept waking up in pain. All this happened in the week when we are all sick - down with a cold. She was up at 6am and didnt want to go back to sleep. So I woke up with her and got some things done and Deepoo slept for a few hours and then he woke up and took care of things while I took a couple of hours nap.

I took the day off and slept with Arya and we watch Tom and Jerry together ...

Seeing her in the pain that even adults find it hard to endure and not being able to do anything was one of the worst experiences of my life.

Montessori - contd...

Day 2 and 3 went ok - not bad. Yesterday she cried when Daddy dropped her off at school and she just started to cry when I went to pick her up, but stopped as soon as she was in my arms. Not bad - she did keep saying "go home soon - school bye bye" But she did not fuss over it - just tried to convince us that we shouldnt send her to school :)
This morning, as soon as I got her shoes out and told her that it was time to get ready for school, she took her shoes and put them away and curled up in my arms. She was kind of complaining, but not really crying. We sang together, I explained to her that should would go to school and have fun - meet with her teach Ms. Martha and the other kids - that she will get to go and play outside on the slide. After a while she seemed to calm down. When it was time to go she was actually excited about being in her car seat - I know YEAH....
When Daddy got to school though Arya was in tears from the moment they got out of the car, but she did not fight it. I guess she doesnt hate it, but just doesnt want to be away from home.
Today, when I went to pick her up, she came hopping - jumping - skipping with a smile on her face. Although as soon as she saw me - she ran saying "all done bye bye - go home now" But she did not cry at all. I love this place - Children Today Montessori - they have been so nice and Arya is doing so much better here than she did at the other place....

Tomorrow she gets to stay 9 am to 11 am. I am thinking that 1st of July I will let her stay until 1230 like she is supposed to from next week. Three day weekend after that for her to recover if she needs to.....

I am so glad that we found a place that we feel comfortable leaving Arya at. The staff and teachers are very nice.
